Two teenage boys are alleged to be behind a spate of tyre slashings in Wangaratta.

Up to 20 cars around Murdoch Road, Ryley Street, Harper Street and Meldrum Street copped the vandalism some time on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Most of the cars had all four tyres slashed, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

A 17-year-old boy was questioned by police and charged, before being released.

He will face court at a later date.

A 13-year-old boy was released pending summons.
